Sightseeing Winnenden

Marktplatz Winnenden
Marketplace Winnenden

The scenic town of Winnenden is located next to the Swabian forest and is surrounded by wine yards and mixed orchards, which presents a lot of different aspects for the visitor. Modern architecture is complemented with restored frame houses and middle-class houses from baroque times. The visitor will recognise the medieval character of the town in the old town centre. Local retailers and gastronomy in the old town centre invite the visitor to stroll and stay. The well-known farmers market opens each Thursday and Saturday.

Guests have a variety of options to go and see places. Next to the Herbert-Winter-Stadium is the public bath called “Wunnebad”, where young and old swimmers can have fun all year round. The local history museum is located in the town’s landmark, the tower of the Schwaikheimer gate. The local history museum (“Heimatstube”) in Hertmannsweiler, a part of Winnenden, presents various photographs and household articles from the 19th century to the visitor. Fans of model trains are welcome to see one of the biggest model train installations of Europe, located at Daimlerstraße 12. The gates of the exhibition are open from mid November till mid January. The fire brigade museum displays exhibits that show the progress in extinguishing techniques. The castle Winnental is surrounded by lovely gardens. The Jakobus altar in the castle’s church and the “Winnender Mops” represents hundreds of years of Winnenden’s history. Tours of the late-gothic high altar are offered from May until October on Sundays and Bank holidays between 2 and 4 pm.
